If on the station you board the train the fare table is in Japanese only, you can buy the cheapest ticket to the line you want to take in the vending machine and then you arrive to desired destination do fare adjustment.

Just insert your card and press the button “English” and all the directions will be given to you. In the end of this process you will get a new ticket from the machine, just insert it into the gate and go throw.
